How to Meet Your True-Self?
Discover your True-Self through the power of meditation.
You are not your body, you are not even your mind. Yogi Master Sadguru developed simple yet powerful meditation to help you discover your True-Self.
Mind vs True-Self
In a previous article, we explored the differences between our Body, Mind, and True-Self.
The Body is the "temple" of your divine being.
The Mind is our conditioned self.
The True-Self is your innermost being, your consciousness, yourself.
Paths to discovering your True-Self
The ancient Yoga Sutras put the first principle path in the simplest term:
Sutra 1.3: When the mind is entirely focused without distraction, only then will you understand and become established in your True-Self.
Simply put, when you reach a state of complete focus, you will discover .your True-Self.
Easy right?
Let's do a quick exercise. Close your eyes. In your mind, slowly and clearly count to 50. If you notice your thoughts drift, and you catch yourself robotically counting, then stop.
Ready...
Set...
Go...
One, two, three...
How did you do? If you made it past 25, you have done just as well as many of the CEOs working with the world-renowned executive coach, Marshall Goldsmith.
The point of this exercise is to show that it's REALLY HARD TO FOCUS. I mean, like really, really hard.
Meditation is Pushups for the Soul
In a recent meditation session, I had an interesting realization.
Meditation is Push-ups for the Soul
- My True-Self
I felt my focus being stretched. Not too far from what I've experienced while working out my biological avatar in the gym.
Your concentration is a muscle, just like the muscles in your upper body. The more consistently you pushups, the stronger your upper body will become.
What is Meditation?
We've all heard about mediation. Odds are, you've sat down and tried it at some point in your life.
Meditation is about becoming more aware and closer to your True-Self and Real Bliss.
- OSHO, Book Meditations
When you break down mediation to the first principle, it is basic. Meditation is training your brain to be more attentive.
If you want to strengthen your physical body, you might achieve that through consistent effort at gym.
Similarly, if you want to strengthen your mental health through meditation.
Science of Meditation
Modern Science is finally catching up to what ancient Yogis, Mystics, and gurus have known for millennia.
Neuroplasticity proves that our brain can be remodeled. It can be re-engineered to match what we most desire.
Neurological training is like training your 💪 for the 🧠.
I like to think of Neurological training as a snowstorm for ski slopes. Without new snow, you will likely ski the same path over and over, getting yourself into a rut limiting your ability to pick and choose where you go. Then a big snow storm comes and covers the slope with two feet of fresh powder. Wahoo! Now you have the ability to get out of your ruts and pick and choose where you go. Think of that power to consciously change your bad habits to new and good habits.
The fallacy of Meditation
If you have ever looked into how to meditate, there is a chance that you've come across apps like HeadSpace and Calm.
When I first started meditating to increase my ability to focus and grow awareness, I downloaded the Calm app.
After months of meditating with the Calm app, I felt like I'd hit a wall. I wasn't seeing the increased focus and awareness I'd read so much about.
Isha Kriya Guided Meditation
The frustration of hitting the wall let me discover Sadguru and his meditation, the Isha Kriya.
Isha Kriya is a simple yet powerful tool to move from untruth to Truth.
– Sadhguru
The Isha Kriya is a simple yet potent process rooted in the timeless wisdom of the yogic sciences.
Sadguru promised that anyone willing to invest just 12 minutes a day could transform their life.
I took the challenge and performed the guided mediation twice daily for 48 days.
How to Perform the Isha Kriya Mediation
The Isha Krya mediation is very basic. Sadguru provides this video as guided meditation free to the general public.
In all, the practice takes about 12 minutes if done properly.
While performing the meditation, be mindful of these words from Master Osho:
One thought comes, then another comes, and between these two thoughts, there is a small gap. And that gap is the DOOR to the DIVINE. If you look into that gap deeply, it starts to become bigger and bigger. Within that gap, you will find your True-self
A more intuitive way to look at Master Osho's brilliant insight is to think of your thoughts as cars on a busy highway.
In our modern society, our minds are full of "Thought Traffic". Once you gain the ability to recognize your thoughts as cars, it will be much easier to focus on the gaps between the thoughts.
Once you achieve the ability to focus on the gaps in the traffic, you will notice a transformation.
Rather than re-actively chasing thoughts, you will experience a sense of bliss as traffic comes to a stop. At that point, you will experience what I like to call, a 'floating mindstate".
This should be the goal!
My Experience with the Isha Kriya Mediation
It wasn't long into the 45-day challenge that I realized the power the Isha Kriya was providing.
It didn't feel like I was hitting a wall anymore. Some of the benefits that I noticed were:
- Improved focus
- Mental clarity
- Increased awareness
- The conscious awareness of my thoughts in live time
- Peace and well being
The biggest tip that I can give you while practicing the Isha Kriya is don't give up. Consistency is the key.
It will be difficult to stay focused, but don't give up. Keep trying, day after day. Once you hit that first breakthrough moment, you will know. From that point forward, it'll all be downhill.
